Harmful Subsidies (perverse subsidies)

Harmful subsidies are financial incentives or public funds provided by governments that unintentionally reward unsustainable business models, distort markets, and accelerate climate change or ecosystem degradation. Harmful or perverse subsidies are those subsidies that, over the long run, exert adverse effects on the environment or economy. Perverse subsides are prominent in five leading sectors: agriculture, fossil fuels and nuclear energy, road transport, water and fisheries.
