BIOFIN-EU Plenary Meeting in Limerick

The first semester of the BIOFIN-EU project has already flown by!

Our first Plenary Meeting was a great success. Representatives from each of the 13 participating organisations met at the University of Limerick, in Ireland from 11th to 13th of June. The assembly provided partners with the chance to strengthen their bonds, exchange ideas, and deepen their collaboration to set clear goals and expectations for the upcoming months.

The first day started with our keaynote speaker, Gary Goggins, Wild Atlantic Nature, discussing the critical importance of peatlands in biodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration, and water regulation. Then, our 3 guest speakers took the floor, with Cristina Moschera,MSc, Politecnico of Milan presenting a Bibliometric Analysis of Nature-Based Solutions). Colas Chevier from the University of Limerick, shared lessons that the BIOFIN-EU project can learn from the Voluntary Cardon market (VCM). Finally, Hummam Shaheed, Lusofona University, shared meaningful insights regarding collecting and assesing Tools for Ecosystem Services and NbS.

The second day was dedicated to discussions around the project’s Learning Sites (LS), defining their involvement and emphasizing the importance of creating a process plan for all of them and defining criteria to identify the commonalities to be used in the NbS dashboard. Breakout sessions took place to allow small group discussions on HOW and with WHO BIOFIN-EU should interact within the industry sector. Overall, the discussion revolved around the complexities and strategies involved in our project aimed at supporting nature-positive investments through data gathering, stakeholder engagement, and strategic alignment. The RAINNO team also hosted the project’s first Intellectual Property (IP) and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) workshop to familiarize partners with the basic of IP.

The third and last day, was devoted to the stakeholders mapping scheme presentation and discussion and to the persona development. Again, breakout sessions took place to review and discuss the personas already provided by the partners with the objective of better understanding of project’s potential users and align with their requirements.

The BIOFIN-EU’s first plenary in Limerick was a positive product meeting and has set up a great groundwork for meaningful progress towards nature-positive investments. As the journey of BIOFIN-EU continues, stay tuned for more updates!
